SRINAGAR, KASHMIR : A number of Kashmir Pandits offered rituals at the historic Vicharnag temple, when it reopened after a 20 year hiatus. Located in the district’s Soura city, once famous for being center of discourse and learning for Muslims and Hindus, the Vicharnag temple had closed in the 1990 when the Kashmiri Pandits migrated from the Kashmir valley following ethnic turbulence. “Every year, during the nine-day Hindu festival of Navaratri, a grand fair used to take place. Hundreds of devotees of all age groups used to converge here but the area has remained deserted for the last 22 years. Now it has been reopened and people have started coming,” said Avtar Kishan Koul, a devotee.

The All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee in the state started the drive two years ago to open all Hindu temples and shrines in the Valley to restore their glory. “I feel very happy to meet the Hindus from Kashmir. They are our guests. Twenty-thirty years ago, we used to eat from the same platter, and help each other during weddings,” said Abdul Samadh, a Muslim.

Sindh govt to probe into Lord Krishna temple land-grabbing Case , Pakistan

New Delhi : Land grabbers in Pakistan are targeting Hindu temple properties. A Lord Krishna temple in Sindh was demolished and 20 acres of land surrounding the temple was illegally encroached by Bashir Khaskheli, leader of a radical organisation, Jeay Sindh.

The owner of the land, Padma Puri, who also heads Karachi Panjrapor Welfare Association, was attacked when she resisted the building of boundary walls around the temple and acid was thrown on her.

The Sindh government has finally owned up to it and promised strict action against the culprit. Sharmila Farooqi, advisor to Chief Minister of Sindh, says: "Whosoever is the culprit will be taken to task. That is my assurance to you."

It's one of those stories that has made impact beyond borders. The big question though, is, whether Pakistan will take it beyond just a promise of a probe and get the land back to the rightful owners although the past record is not very encouraging.

South Carolina Hindus Get a Temple Of Their Own , USA

SOUTH CAROLINA, U.S., March 19, 2010: Hindus in the Orangeburg area on Friday begin a significant chapter as they celebrate the opening of the new Hindu Temple and Cultural Center. Different spiritual and social events to mark the occasion will take place Friday-Sunday March 19-21 at the new facility.

Temple trustee Sangeeta Gupta says an influx of new members and a desire to worship in a roomier facility led to the acquisition of the new structure in August. She expects about 500 people will be on hand for this weekend’s opening. “We simply wanted a temple of our own because we did not want to have to drive to Columbia,” Gupta said. “I estimate there are around 300 Hindu families within about a 60-mile radius of Orangeburg and other local communities such as Denmark, Barnwell and Bamberg.”
